Indy 500

It's almost here~ the biggest weekend in Indianapolis.

This Sunday is the 88th running of the Indianapolis 500;  The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.

I am a huge Indy 500 fan.  Generally I go to the race each year.  It's a part of who I am~ growing up in this city makes it hard to ignore this event, and the sheer size of the crowd combined with the speed of the racecars makes this one very exciting day.  No one could ever imagine how big the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is or how it feels to be a part of something so big, unless you are here to witness it yourself.  Last year, I took a couple of friends from Chicago, and they stood in the stands with their mouths hanging open, unable to grasp the magnitude of it all.

I've been following qualifications this year, quietly from the sidelines.  It's not something I've talked about here because most people outside of Indianapolis or the racing world don't find the race particularly interesting, and most importantly, because I'm NOT going this year.  Boooo Hooooo!

See, I made a deal with the ex that he could go this year, so I will have the kids.  Being that it is Memorial Day weekend, finding a babysitter is next to impossible, so I resigned myself early in the month that I wouldn't be going to the race.  That I'd have to be content with listening to it on the radio.

And now race weekend is almost here, and I'm depressed.  I won't be getting my yearly fix of Indy cars, drivers, and race festivities.  Each year holds it's own stories, records and events surrounding the race, and being left out of it l leaves me with an empty feeling.  I have some amazing race stories of my own; Stories about meeting race car drivers, having dinner with team owners, living the good life in suites at the track, that sort of thing.  I may still have a few stories to share, because I'm going out Friday night to be a part of the scene downtown, but that won't begin to make up for the fact that I have to wait another whole year to be sitting in my favorite section, watching Jim Neighbors sing "Back Home Again In Indiana", screaming at the top of my lungs, drinking beer, and watching the winner drink his ceremonial milk.  I'm also going to miss Jessica Simpson perform the national anthem, her husband, Nick, as he waves the green flag for the start of the race, Morgan Freeman in the pace car, and the famous words "Lady and gentleman, start your engines".

This is going to be a very long year.

Cicada Haiku

Oh big nasty bugs
I hear you in the woods now;
Seventeen years strong.

You can't fly very well
Can't you learn to stay away;
The cats get free lunch.

You may be harmless
I am creeped out by your sound;
Please stop mocking me.

An Open Letter

Dear people who IM me who don't even really know me,

Please stop sending instant messages to me,
asking me if I want to chat.
Especially if you are a 14 year-old boy.
Or a Sexxy Chick.
Or pretty much anyone for that matter.

Don't go away mad.  Just go away.

Wanna make someone's day?  Try Nude Messenger
I'm guessing that this is safe enough for work~
not that you'd be reading blogs there, or anything.
It's too funny to miss.
Whatever I said about posting indecent stuff yesterday
is pretty much out the window now, though.

Enjoy!

ETA~ I've been sitting here for the last few minutes
looking through the site's gallery.  LMAO!
There's one called "He who smelt it..."
Bwah!
